Claude Sonnet 4.6 is here — and Haiku is now the default

Two model updates today.

Claude Sonnet 4.6

Claude Sonnet 4.6 is now available in TeamTeacher — Anthropic's latest balanced model. It brings:

Adaptive thinking — reasoning depth scales automatically to match task complexity
Up to 1M token context (beta) for subscribers
64K max output for longer, richer responses

It replaces Claude Sonnet 4.5 as the recommended model. Sonnet 4.5 is now deprecated but existing conversations continue to work.

Haiku 4.5 is now the default

Starting today, Claude Haiku 4.5 is the default model for new conversations. It's fast, capable, and free — great for most everyday teaching tasks like drafting, feedback, and Q&A.

You can change your default anytime in Account Settings, or switch models within any conversation.

Subscribers have access to Claude Sonnet 4.6 and Claude Opus 4.6 for more demanding tasks.

OpenAI model updates

GPT-5 mini is now available as a free model — fast and capable for everyday tasks, with a 400K context window and 128K max output.

GPT 5.1, GPT 5.2, and GPT 4.1 now require a subscription.

Google Gemini model updates

Gemini 3.1 Pro (preview) is now available for subscribers, replacing Gemini 3 Pro preview. Gemini 3 Pro is now deprecated.

Gemini 2.5 Pro now requires a subscription.
